We received a letter from a teacher after Rick’s lecture at Calvary Chapel, San Jose that shows the lack of tolerance for any opinion that counters Darwinism has been around for a long time: “You gave a thrilling presentation and I will be sharing these DVDs with folks. I have my master’s in English and Comp. Lit. and (I) well remember the incredible ridicule and resistance (I received), not only in my science classes, but in history, literature, and the social sciences, regarding any ideas that challenge Darwinism in all its pervasiveness. God bless your ministry in the Spirit of truth!”
One of our desires is to present information that would hold the interest of scientists and non scientists. A professor from Cal Poly, San Louis Obispo, CA confirmed Rick is doing just that. After reviewing Rick’s DVD, “Faith without Excuse,” the professor called and told Rick that the DVD held his interest for the full four hours. He said he watched it in one sitting. He said Rick made the scientific information and principles easy to understand. He said Rick never lost his interest, but Non science people will be able to understand because you brought it into every day language.
A former co worker from Mount Hermon Christian Camps, CA wrote Rick an e-mail after several years since he spent time talking with Rick and attending Rick’s lectures at Mount Hermon’s family camp. He is now a teacher in another state. “I wanted to thank you for all the conversations we had over the years about science and religion. I had a chance to use them.” He explained a student expressed her frustration over having to learn (macro) evolution and not being able to talk about God…She also had concerns about having her Bible taken from her and getting detentions for speaking her mind. He finished with, “It was nice to have the background to have an intelligent conversation (with her). Thanks.”
After visiting with Pastor Jeremy Higgins, “Now to the blessing God has set before us. Dr. Rick Oliver was in my office today, in Tempe, AZ.” (After the visit was in progress Jeremy invited Rick to speak in the church Jeremy pastors in Cedar Rapids, IA) and he states, “Dr Oliver will be speaking at our church (Calvary Chapel Cedar Rapids) on Wednesday, August 12 at our 6:30 p.m. service as well as Sunday, August 16, 2009 at a special Sunday evening service at 6:30 p.m. What and excellent opportunity to grow in our understanding of God’s perfect Creation, Praise the LORD.”
These quotes and thoughts are a few examples of how the mission statement of Confound the Wise Ministries are being accomplished: “To proclaim the true and unerring Word of Jesus Christ revealed in the Holy Scriptures within the realm of science and technology.” And we also are within the boundaries set by the scientific community in their resolution documented in 1976. In this document it is stated that a scientist can go where ever his studies lead him without retribution. But the scientific community is not living by its own resolution as many scientists and professors have lost their jobs and their fellowships because they either talked about or refused to stop their scientific discoveries that went against the accepted scientific theories of our day. This fact is well documented in Rick’s “Faith without Excuse,” DVD and the 2008 film by Ben Stein, “Expelled.” And that is why we are compelled by our Lord to continue…to present alternatives to the …”Science so called (1 Timothy 6:20).” We encourage people to believe the unchanging truth of God’s Word.

Rick’s Speaking Tour
We are now at the Home of our dear friends The Pearce Family Bluegrass Band. We are spending time just hanging out with Doub and Traci while we unwind from speaking at Calvary Chapel San Jose. God has blessed both Susan and I by the friendship of Senior Pastor Mike McClure and Associate Pastor Brad Wood as well as the entire staff. I have already received several e-mails confirming the great response to the Sunday night lecture. I was able to respond to the latest article involving the so called 47 million year old fossil “Link” to humans from primitive primates called Lemurs. This fossil find is being called the greatest find in fossil history, some have even called it the eighth wonder of the world. I even watched a National Geographic special last night with my friend Doub Pearce. The special consisted of the same old repettion of suspect dating and non-specific details by the Scientist that bought the fossil that had been preserved some sort of laminate and stored for over 25 years in a drawer by a private fossil collector. There was no mention of all the other scientists that disagree with the conclusions of Dr Hurum and his team. And there certainly was no mention of any details on how they arrived at the 47 million year old date. As usual it was much ado about nothing.
We started this speaking tour in Oroville California on the 12th of May with FLW Outdoors Professional bass fishing tour and made stops along the way at Mount Hermon Christian Conference center and spent time with our friends Senior Pastor of True Life Christian Fellowship Eric Reinstedt and his family. Eric and his wife Maryann have been our soul mates and have been very instrumental in getting this Ministry started. We also had the pleasure of meeting with many members of the Church while there.We are so Blessed to have so many people from this church praying for us and supporting this Ministry financialy. I then met with a group of Pastors from the Paso Robles area and spoke at a men’s breakfast while there. We are concluding this trip by stopping in Orange County to visit with friends and family.

I have known Rick Oliver and his ministry for many years. First as an employee at our Youth Camp, then as he set up a Science Education program for Mount Hermon Conference Center. Rick has recently started a new ministry, “Confound The Wise” in which he goes around to different churches and groups to present an excellent defense for the accuracy of the Bible from a scientific standpoint. In these days when there seems to be so many unfounded attacks on the Bible from the worldly science community, that have damaged the faith of many, it is vital that our people receive sound scientific evidence as to the accuracy of the scriptures concerning creation and other issues. Rick comes from a solid science background, and is well qualified to talk to our people on these issues, in order to reaffirm their faith in the Word of God. I believe that you and your church will be greatly benefited by Rick’s presentation.

For those of you who do not know that this new Ministry, “Confound The Wise” is fully dependant on Christian Support for all of our financial and Prayer needs. My wife Susan and I have taken a great leap of faith to step out as Missionaries at this time in our lives.I it with sincere Thankfulness to those who have already sent us support and prayer that has allowed us to manage thus far. God at work

“Just wanted to let you know that tonight was the last Alpha meeting and over the last two sessions, many of the kids gave their lives to the Lord. Some of the kids said that a turning point in their decision on God came after your discussion/presentation. You have a wonderful message for kids at this vulnerable age and I’m so grateful to you for helping minister to our Alpha Group.”

Ben Stein “Expelled”: No Intelligence Allowed
In theaters on April 18th, 2008:
I highly recommend this movie to all people that can think for them selves. Here is an opportunity to hear and see both sides of an issue and then make up your own mind based on all the information, not just the one sided mandated information but all of the information. It is time that the education system in this country wake up and teach students “how to think not just what to think”

Faith Undone
I have had the opportunity to read the book Faith Undone by Roger Oakland. I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in the Emerging Church. This web site is linked to Roger’s at Understand the Times.
I will be speaking at Victory Life Church March 15th and 16th. I will be covering a variety of subjects but I will focus on the Global Warming issues. My goal is to try to separate the facts from the fiction in a Christian Prospective.
